Searching for Penance….

“They say that the mine’s owners Duel for labor…the losers get sent away to work in ‘em for the rest of their lives. If you know what’s good for you, stay away.”
But Kalin did know what was good for him. He also knew what his heart told him…and what sins he had committed and the lives he had altered or destroyed altogether during his time as a Dark Signer.
“Those who lose their Duels are sent away in coffins, never to be seen again for their natural lives.”
Kalin could think of no punishment more fitting. To lose at the hands of an opponent…just as he had done to so many others. For it would not be fair to simply throw the match…it would not be fair to his opponent, either. It would be too easy, and penance was not supposed to be easy.
He would let Fate be his deciding hand. Kalin strode down into the town, willing Fate to guide him. A flower shop…several bars…a small hospital…a diner…Kalin paused in front of the diner. Places like this were always full of information, weren’t they? It might be a good place to start.
